I managed to crank out 1,626 words towards a first chapter, after work today.
I’ve spent the last week or two planning and thinking about what kind of novel I want to write, characters, and so on. Things will certainly change, but I feel like I have a little bit of a “big picture” plan in mind.
At the moment it’s feeling like a thriller story, but I think I need to spend some more time making sure I understand some of the particulars (obligatory scenes and things) of the thriller genre.
According to Scrivener, I have to write 1,212 words every weekday to make my self imposed October 31 deadline. I’m hoping that three months is way more time than I need to write, but I wanted to set my goal at a reasonable and achievable regular word count.
I did NaNoWriMo back in 2015 and managed about 60,000 words, but with no plan and pantsing all the way, the story just fizzled out at the end. I had no idea where to take it!
We shall see how this adventure goes. Instead of the “fail to plan, plan to fail” mantra, I’m going with a more positive approach: succeed to plan, plan to succeed!
